The Twelve Apostles
If you are staying in Apollo Bay, visiting the 12 Apostles really can be considered a “must-do” – if you make the effort, you won’t be disappointed. They are located along the Great Ocean Road, just to the east of Port Campbell and are the stunning centrepiece of the Port Campbell National Park.

Reaching up to a height of 45 metres, the 12 Apostles were formed by the effects of the elements which have eroded the limestone cliffs to create the breath taking rock formations and arches you see today. In 2005, one of the rock stacks collapsed leaving just eight remaining and unfortunately, it is inevitable that collapses will occur.

One of Victoria’s most popular tourist attractions, it is estimated that the 12 Apostles receive around two million visitors each year. The area has been well managed by Parks Victoria, with excellent walking tracks and a number of good viewing areas.

It is enjoyable to visit at any time of the day, with sunrise and sunset being particularly popular due to the effects the changing light has upon the formations. For something even more impressive, scenic flights by helicopter can be arranged locally.

The 12 Apostles are about an hour or so from Apollo Bay by car, and it’s also easy to visit by bus.
